I can’t get a 10:30 tee-time???? I’m booking early enough!! Why the heck not??
” I’m sorry Peter, but they “Double Tee” on Course X. There are no late morning times”, says the harried Golf Director. If there is one thing about golf in Myrtle Beach that we explain most often it is the practice of “Double Teeing”. This practice is used by almost every golf course on the Grand Strand that is physically able to do so. With double teeing, the Starter has golfers starting off of both nines, # 1 and #10, from early in the morning till approximately 9:30. Then, all tee offs are suspended because the two sides have to “cross over” and play the nine they have yet to play. Then the entire process starts over for the afternoon rounds which will run from 12:20 or so till 2:30 ( there aren’t any 3:00PM times either).
This is a great way for the golf courses to maximize the number of players they can put through their course each day. It makes for a little hectic scene at the backdrop in the morning, and you can come up on the 10th tee after a speedy nine to find a group or two in front of you if there’s been a delay on that nine. That’s never very pleasant but it’s just one of those quirky things about Myrtle Beach.
As a rule, the only courses that will not be double teeing are those layouts that do not return to the clubhouse after the opening nine. That makes double teeing impossible for them. These courses are in the vast minority, but some examples are: Wild Wing-Avocet, Myrtlewood-Palmetto, Pearl East and Lockwood Folly to name a few.
So “Double Teeing” – just one more reason to book a golf trip just as soon as possible so that at least you have a shot at those 9 to 930 times.
On-Line Booking–You’ve got to be Kidding!
Diligent Group Leaders scouring the web for Myrtle Beach golf package information are seeing more and more invitations to book their packages on line. While the big Myrtle Beach course and hotel conglomerates are really pushing this as the way of the future, ( they make way more $$ that way) , it just doesn’t work.
I’m sure you’ve tried it. After you have entered all your dates, course preferences, etc., and have stared mesmerized at the little spinning wheel for minute after minute, only to find out tee-times are not available or rates aren’t loaded yet -you need to start ALL OVER AGAIN! Aaarrrggg!! Even if you land times, here is where the extra money is made. Some examples: You will never have the system come back and say ” well- if you play Caledonia on Thursday and World Tour on Wednesday you can pick up the $30 mid-week savings on World Tour ( it won’t tell you that if they start you on # 19 you will miss Amen Corner either).
And it’s not just the money- If you need a 36 hole day but it’s your first trip to Myrtle Beach the system will happily let you book Thistle in the AM and Pawley’s Plantation in the PM. The problem?? They are over an hour apart. Course maintenance that day- you will never find out this way and could end up playing on recently punched greens. And it won’t tell you about frost delays in February, double teeing at 95% of the courses, and all the other little nuances to be taken into consideration when putting a great schedule together.
This is where a real live Golf Director who knows his/her stuff comes into play. You get local and logical advice from someone who wants to put the best package forward that makes sense for you. The potentiel for savings and peace of mind are huge.
So forget that darn spinning icon, and call a real live person- 800-708-7174 is the best place to start and we’re ready to help you..
Another great week of golf already behind us…
A week of golf, it flies so fast!
Talk about this to the foursome below!
From left to right, André Lavoie, Yvon Bertrand, Jacques Brissette and Gaétan Tessier, who had the pleasure of living a good week of golf in Myrtle Beach!
Thanks gentlemen for visiting and hope to see you again pretty soon in Myrtle Beach!
Happy fellows…
The three lads in order: Alain, Philippe and Dominique.
We had an excellent trip. The temperature was great! Not a drop of rain during our 10 rounds of golf.
J.T. was able to choose the best tee times because it only rained before and after playing.
Everything was perfect as it is (condo, golf courses, etc.). We were very welcomed everywhere.
Be sure that we’ll be back next year!
Leafs/Canadiens Opener !!
I just had an interesting call. One of our groups in October was hoping he would be able to watch the Leafs opener while in Myrtle Beach and was wondering where he might go to see it. After I chased the thought ” psychiatric ward” from my mind, I told him that the Hooters chain of restaurants had all had the NHL network last year. He is staying at Myrtlewood, so there is a Hooters on Kings Highway practically at the foot of 48th Ave.
As an avid Carolina Hurricanes fan, I have to confess I wouldn’t be cheering for either of these two teams – BUT-I’d probably find something to watch at Hooters anyway!
Legends Package Extended Through Fall! – Spring 2012 too!!
This is great news for our Fall golfers. The Legends Group will extend their “5 for the price of 4″ package and continue to include a full breakfast, complete lunch and 2 beers each day- all included in a very reasonable price.
I just came back from joining a group of 16 I have helped the past 8 years. They did this schedule over the May Bike Week and all felt the courses were great and the food and drink was handled very well. “The best trip yet” was the general consensus….J.T.
Flash- the Legends Group have decided to run their breakfast, lunch, beer special all through the winter and spring 2012! If you haven’t played these courses – there’s no better time than this year!
Da! Da! Canada
Way to go boys!!!!! People in my neighborhood must have wondered what the screaming was about!! What a game!
Olympics in Vancouver- Kind of makes you Homesick!
Wow, the Winter Olympics are in Canada once again. Friday, February 12, the Torch will be carried into the stadium and the Olympic Flame will be lit. This brings back a lot of great memories for me. In 1988, I was part of Petro-Canada’s team that carried the Olympic Torch to Calgary. I was Torch Coordinator for the mobile portion of the Relay from Sudbury to Prince Albert. What a spectacular ( and cold) way to see Northern Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Canadian flags lined the roads everywhere we went. It would be so great to do that once again. All the best of luck to our Canadian athletes in these 2010 Games and at least one person in the Deep South will be cheering them on…J.T.

The Legends Package – WOW!
2009 was not a strong year for the golf courses of Myrtle Beach. For a lot of courses, rounds played were down significantly. Now they are scrambling to come up with deals to make sure they get their share of golfers in 2010. One of the best of these deals to come out is the Legends Package. You play 5 great rounds for the price of 4 on Heritage Club, Oyster Bay and Heathland, Moorland and Parkland AND- you get Breakfast, Lunch and two Beers each day!! Now that’s value!! Book this early, because this will be very popular!
FLASH- you can now stay at the fabulous Legends Resort in great 1, 2 and 3 bedroom fully equipped condos. With a fabulous clubhouse, one of the best practice facilities in MB, and the famous Ailsa Pub right there on site, this location is a winner! Be sure to ask us about Legends!
What it’s all about-You!!
One of the best things about this job is the great folks you meet and the satisfaction you can gain from putting together a trip that the folks really appreciate and will remember for a long time!
We have a large archive of customers/ friends we have made over the years. Here’s just one to get us started. It is wild in the office right now, but we will add a lot more as time allows.

These great fellows, from Brockville, Ontario are my veterans with about 13 consecutive trips! I’ll get to see them again this April as they are all hooked up!…J.T.
And it’s not ALL about Canadians – here is a great group of guys from the Woburn, MA area:
These Ontario Boys below have been great customers as well. I’ve had a chance to play with them ( on their Ryder Cup Day) and have enjoyed a little Texas Hold’em back at their condo as well. I think 2010 will be our 8th year together!
